How to get really good at presenting your shots by yourself for free:
- Pick 1-3 shots you’ve worked on (finished or WIP)
- Open Zoom or Google Meet (solo session)
- Hit record
- Imagine you’re in dailies with a comp sup and VFX sup
- Present your shot like it’s your turn in the review
- Talk about what changed, what’s pending, and what feedback you need
- Do 2–3 different takes per shot
- End the call
- Rewatch yourself and take notes on 𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗲, 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆, and 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲
You’ll probably notice:
• Saying “just” or “kinda” too much
• Rushing through updates without context
• Apologizing for WIPs
• Not knowing how to ask for specific feedback
• Looking insecure or downplaying your own work
Now pick one thing to improve.
Rerun the exercise with just that in mind.
By session 5, you’ll speak like someone the sup trusts.
By 10, you’ll sound like someone who has been doing this for years.
Nobody teaches this in VFX schools.
Because most of them don’t care if you get hired.
You’re a tuition payment. A seat to fill.
But in every real studio, you’ll have to explain your work.
