Every so often, I get DMs asking me to review reels.
I understand why.
VFX is noisy. Many people feel almost there, but aren’t sure what to fix next.
What kept repeating, though, was this:
When I reviewed reels informally, I often spent one to four hours giving detailed notes.
Weeks later, nothing had changed.
Same shots. Same unresolved issues. Same confusion.
That isn’t a motivation problem.
It’s a signal that the feedback wasn’t treated as a decision point.
Casual feedback creates the feeling of progress.
Serious improvement requires commitment, sequencing, and follow-through.
So I stopped.
Not because I care less,
but because I want my feedback to have consequences
and my time to be treated with the same seriousness.
