In this series, we’re highlighting the world-class studios where artists trained by Ganz and Andrew have gone on to work.

Each post celebrates the incredible work these studios have created over the years, the same kind of productions our graduates now help bring to life.

Today: Vancouver-based The Embassy contributed over 100 shots to the climactic final battle sequence of District 9 (2009).

The studio was responsible for the CG Exo-suit, including key-frame animation, rendering, and compositing. Their artists also worked on location in Johannesburg, supporting Neill Blomkamp’s production.

The Embassy’s work included integrating CG elements with RED camera footage while managing rolling-shutter artifacts, a major technical challenge at the time.
