In this series, we’re highlighting world-class studios where artists trained by Ganz and Andrew have gone on to work.
Each post celebrates the incredible work these studios have created over the years, the same kind of productions our graduates now help bring to life.
Today: FuseFX, the studio behind the subtle yet powerful visual storytelling in Halston (2021), the Netflix limited series starring Ewan McGregor as the legendary American designer.
While Halston isn’t driven by explosions or creatures, its world demanded something harder invisibility. FuseFX contributed to over 400 shots across all five episodes, handling environment reconstruction, skyline replacements, digital cleanups, and period-accurate set extensions that brought 1960s–1980s New York back to life.
From re-creating the view outside Halston’s glass-walled penthouse to transforming modern streets into disco-era Manhattan, FuseFX’s work made every frame feel authentic without ever calling attention to itself. Their team digitally erased modern signage and lighting, added crowd and lighting enhancements to Studio 54 sequences, and even performed meticulous hair, makeup, and continuity fixes to maintain Halston’s precise aesthetic.
Rather than spectacle, the work sustains emotion allowing McGregor’s performance and the story’s era to shine through.
Because great visual effects aren't always about being seen. Sometimes, the highest mastery is preserving the illusion that no work was done at all.
(And yes, our graduates are now doing exactly this kind of work.)
