How I mentor my students individually for 45-60 mins (twice a week)

💡 1. Weekly Goals

This solves a number of problems:

  • Keeping the session productive
  • Ensuring all key topics are covered
  • Avoiding wasting their time

If you want your sessions to be effective, create a mentorship plan that outline objectives and key topics prior to each mentoring session.

💡 2. Real-World Shots

I provide my students with practical experience through real-world shots.

They need to understand how to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world compositing problems. Without this, it's just theory. Even if they don't get it right the first time... I know it's building their skills with every session.

I also like to incorporate little demos into every session to further their understanding.

💡 3. Feedback and Reviews

I ensure my students understand their strengths and areas for improvement.

Constructive criticism is essential. Without it, they can't improve. Even if the feedback is tough to hear... it's necessary for growth. After all no one around them is

I regularly review their work and provide detailed feedback, highlighting both strengths and areas for improvement.

💡 4. Notion

I provide the entirety of my Video Library

This solves the problem of limited resources. Giving students access to a wider range of materials supports their independent learning.

The team at Alpha Chromatica share relevant articles, tutorials, and tools to enhance their learning experience.

💡 5. Q&A Sessions

I address any questions or concerns they might have.

This ensures they have a clear understanding of the material. If they can't ask questions, they're left in the dark. Even if it means repeating myself... it's worth it.

I dedicate time during each session for students to ask questions and discuss any challenges they are facing.

💡 6. Encouragement and Support

I motivate and inspire my students to continue learning and improving.

Keeping them motivated is crucial. Without encouragement, they might lose interest. Even if progress is slow... it's still progress.

I provide positive reinforcement and support to help them stay motivated and confident in their abilities because I believe in them!

âš¡ Summary (TL;DR):

It takes structured planning and practical approaches to effectively mentor compositing students twice a week.

But setting weekly goals, incorporating real-world shots, and providing regular feedback...

That’s how you will build confidence, improve skills, and achieve outstanding results in your students.
