Chroma 0224
Have you ever wondered what it takes to create the impossible and make it look real? Despite the moniker https://thefake.guru/, my goal is to share the truth behind the art of deception.
Most of the time, I don't have anything profound or earth-shattering to add to conversations on the internet or LinkedIn. Experience has taught me that trying to change someone's mind, especially online, is futile.
This brings me to Reddit. There have been a few threads mentioning my name in relation to my former workplace. I chose not to engage due to the anonymity of the platform. I simply do not know who is writing these things and don't want to know. Admittedly, I have been the source of a few leaks.
Whenever someone asks me in person or through a Zoom meeting what happened last summer, I tell them the truth. There is no point in hiding or being evasive, especially towards my former students and colleagues.
Yes, it's unfortunate how I was treated and how things turned out after putting my heart into it for 13 long years. But I am a grown man and I can live with my disappointments.
I started Alpha Chromatica during one of the most challenging periods in Canadian Visual Effects history. With generative AI raising concerns, Hollywood strikes ongoing, and the Canadian government cracking down on diploma mills and making it harder to study in Canada, it might have seemed like the absolute worst time to start a VFX school.
But I did because bad times don't last. I, for one, am incredibly proud of the work we at Alpha Chromatica accomplished over the last year.
To those of you considering studying at a school: speak with the people who run the place, talk to the current instructors and recent graduates, and make an informed decision. Don’t let anonymous voices online dictate your life choices.
Honestly, why would you allow some random person whom you never met tell you not to get an education? especially since it could potentially change your life for the better?
While you might hear that no employer will care where you went to school, you will. If you are serious about succeeding in this field, find a school that shares your passion and commitment.
One good indicator is to see whether the average student of that particular school can produce photorealistic work. You can't argue with photorealism. If it doesn't look real, well... it doesn't.
I choose LinkedIn as my platform to share the work and progress of everyone at Alpha Chromatica because you know exactly who I am, what I stand for, and that I am reachable. There is no PR team carefully writing non-controversial and totally inauthentic messages. Message me, and I will reply, albeit slowly.
With that, here is Alpha Chromatica's first-ever show reel for your consideration. Only 5 seats left for our January 2025 Online Compositing Program.
