Kun Xiao was an expectant father when he joined the Compositing program at Alpha Chromatica. Our program uniquely fit his family’s needs because it is completely online, all live lectures are recorded, and mentors are available in the evenings. This meant he could still learn rapidly while remaining close to his wife when she needed him most and present for the birth of his first child. A lot has changed for Kun in the 8 months since he began our program and graduated in December. He became a Dad and a professional Compositor!
When a former VFX colleague from Vitality Visual Effects reached out to me looking for mid-senior Compositors, I thought of Kun and asked: “How about a high-performing junior?” Knowing Kun and the studio quite well, I could confidently recommend him as a strong candidate for the role. He was interviewed and completed a test shot, then hired within a few days. Networking is a large part of the VFX industry. I’m thankful this opportunity arose to help my former workplace complete a difficult project and launch the VFX career of one of my students.
Reading Kun’s messages about his excitement to receive increasingly challenging compositing tasks makes me feel so proud. Praise about his performance from the studio is also very satisfying to receive.
