A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…
Someone still had to paint out the mocap crew.
For this shot, Adrian He from Alpha Chromatica worked on behind-the-scenes footage from Rogue One, painting out the mocap artists and camera rig.
The challenge wasn’t the cleanup, it was the reconstruction.
He had to infer what existed behind the actors and camera rig: panel edges, blinking buttons and the subtle gradients of Imperial lighting.
It’s the kind of work that demands quiet reasoning more than brute effort; rebuilding what isn’t visible by studying what is.
A reminder that good paintouts isn’t about removing things.
It’s about restoring the truth of the image.
