A VFX career runs on extremes.

The production that consumes everything for eight months, followed by the stretch where nothing is moving and the inbox is quiet. The creative high of work that comes together, followed by the project that gets cut before anyone sees it. Artists who stay in this industry long enough will experience both ends of that range more than once.

What I've noticed in the artists who navigate those swings most effectively is that they have something stable underneath the fluctuation. Not a strategy or a savings account, though both help. Something more fundamental, a clear enough sense of who they are and what they value that the highs don't inflate them and the lows don't define them.

That steadiness doesn't come from having a smooth career. It comes from enough experience with both ends of the range to know that neither one is permanent, and that you are not the sum of whatever is currently happening to you professionally.
