The strange thing about the AI boom is watching people confuse output with value.
Everywhere I look, people are celebrating speed.
They are proud they can write more articles now. More posts. More emails. More reports. Entire workflows that used to take days now take hours. Things that once needed teams can suddenly be handled by one person sitting in front of a laptop.
And to be fair, I understand why people are excited.
Most knowledge workers spent years buried under repetitive work. Writing reports nobody wanted to read. Summarizing meetings for people who did not attend them. Organizing spreadsheets. Rewriting the same emails over and over again. A lot of office work became moving information from one place to another.
Of course people wanted relief from that.
But I think many people are misunderstanding what is actually happening.
They think AI is making them more valuable because they can produce more things faster.
What they do not realize is that if everyone can produce infinite amounts of acceptable work, then the work itself starts losing value very quickly.
The internet is already filling up with synthetic content that nobody actually cares about. Synthetic articles. Synthetic videos. Synthetic commentary. Synthetic insight written by people who barely understand the subjects they are talking about.
The scary part is not that AI can generate these things.
The scary part is how willing people are to accept them.
A lot of workers are unknowingly training the market to lower its expectations. Every time someone proudly announces they used AI to generate twenty articles in a week, what they may actually be demonstrating is that the work itself required very little judgment to begin with.
People think the conversation is:
“AI helps me do my job faster.”
But many companies are slowly arriving at a very different conclusion:
“If AI can already do most of this work, why are we paying so many people to do it manually?”
Those are two very different conversations.
Right now, people still think value comes from execution speed. But execution is becoming cheap. Coordination is becoming automated. Volume is becoming infinite.
And once volume becomes infinite, people start searching for something else.
Taste.
Judgment.
Originality.
Trust.
Clarity.
Experience.
Things that are much harder to manufacture.
