For a long stretch of my career in Canada, I measured how well things were going by how full the roster was.

More students, more content to produce. If enrollment was moving, I felt like I was moving. And when things slowed down between intakes, between launches, I didn't know what to do with the quiet. It felt like falling behind.

What I've come to understand is that stability isn't stagnation. The educators and artists I've watched build careers that actually last aren't the ones who kept the intensity at maximum. They're the ones who learned how to be present inside an ordinary day. Who built something steady enough to grow from.

A career can only expand outward in proportion to how grounded it is inward. If the only thing keeping you going is external momentum, the quiet periods will undo you.
