The VFX industry doesn't have a good relationship with rest.

Output is visible. Rest isn't. And in an environment that measures your value by what you've shipped, taking time to recover can feel like falling behind even when your body and your work are both telling you otherwise.

Recovery is not the absence of progress. The reflection that happens in the slower periods is doing work that the busy periods can't. The integration of everything you've learned, the recalibration of where you actually want to go, the restoration of the energy that makes good work possible, none of that happens at full speed.

There's nothing wrong with needing to move at your own pace. A career that compounds over decades requires a different relationship with time than one built to produce at maximum output and burn out.

On the days when pushing forward feels genuinely wrong, rest is the most honest response available to you.
